This is an interesting topic and there really is no perfect answer, however most of us can agree that that certain fraternities are probably near the top in certain areas of the country and that certain fraternties are among the leading national groups.
For example can anyone really deny that SAE and KA are strong in the South, I used to live in Tuscaloosa Alabama and the E's were all dominant at UA and Auburn. My wife went to Vanderbilt and KA and SAE were strong there as well. The Miami triad is very strong in the midwest while many old line fraternities,IE- DKE, CHI PSI and ADPHI remain strongest in the NorthEast.
On a national leve most peple would agree that Beta, PhiDelt ,Fiji, SAE and Sigma Chi have a fairly high proportion of stronger chapters. Of course every campus is different but these national and international groups have avoided the pitfalls of overselectivity which have hurt the small old line fraternities while not expanding too fast like TKE or SPE.
