I graduated in May of 1999. I had been waitressing, and continued that throughout the summer. After a couple road trips, I decided to find a "real" job. I took a job with my current company the fall of '99.
The job I found isn't exactly related to my major, which was Speech & Communications, but it's okay. I've been with the company about 3 years, and have held 4 positions. Moving up quickly is a plus.
This still isn't what I want to do when I grow up. I'd like to go back to school, but I'm not sure what for (I waiver between something practical like an MBA and something really fun, like an MA in Film Studies).
Sometimes I think I'd like to explore some other career options, but with the job market like it is, I think I'll stay right here for now. Although my former boss went to work for a similar company, and calls like once a month to let some of us know what positions she has available. So that may be an option, too.
Oh, and I'm the National Editor for Phi Beta. I
wish that were my job! Unfortunately, we're small enough that our national positions are all volunteer. (Someday in the future we hope to change that). I've gotten quite a lot of job experience from that, too. I inlcude it on my resume. (It is like a second job sometimes, but way more fun).
