I use whatever after I already won my argument and am not really listening to what is being said but want to make some sort of reply.
I also use sure as a less enthusiastic form of yes. When I don't particularly want to do something but am going along with it to be nice.
Him: Did you still want to go to see that lastest chick flick?
Me: Yes
Him: Well why don't we do that tomorrow so we can
catch the football game today. Is that okay with you?
Me: Sure
