I too was someone who desperately wanted to be in the "cool" sorority on campus, and preffed them along with another group that I thought were down to earth and real and fun. I rushed as a sophomore, so I knew what the various reps of the houses were. It was a hard choice to make, opting for the smaller, less popular house--but it was the right one! Not a day goes by that I don't talk to one of my sisters, and my friends in the other house--left it all behind after graduation, it was, for most of them, about a social life first, a sisterhood 2nd. If that's what you are looking for, its the right place for you, but it wasn't for me, and I am glad I went with my heart.
