In this context, I have another question.
I have heard that you only pay dues while you are active - is that right?
It were kind of funny if you wouldn't have to pay dues when you are alumnus and actually capable to pay them....
That's how it works in my fraternity - small chapter dues during the time as an active (about 20-30 $ per semester and higher ones as alumnus (around 100-200$per year). And the national dues are completely negligible (a couple of bucks per year) - we are much more decentralized. That way the alumni take care of the actives in their chapter and also keep the house in shape. Actually, it has the positive side effect that the contact between alumni and actives is very vivid.
