I have both a Glock and a short-barrel shotgun. I had a pistol grip conversion done on it, and I also had a side-saddle mounted to it to hold three extra shells. It looks extremely intimidating.
Between a Glock and a shotgun, the shotgun is more likely to neutralize an intruder faster. I use 00 buckshot and slugs in my shotgun. They both deliver overwhelming force. With 00 buckshot, each pull of the trigger releases multiple projectiles, increasing the chances of hitting vital areas, even if your aim is slightly off. With the slugs I use, the impact is so powerful, it can destroy entire sections of bone or muscle and leave entry wounds significantly larger than a handgun. I’d rather look to incapacitate an intruder quickly, rather than trying to aim in a stressful situation.
The Glock’s stopping power isn’t as immediate as a shotgun, especially if you’re using slugs. One shot with a slug, and game over. A new wall would be needed, too. Plus, a shotgun has a more psychological advantage over the Glock. An intruder hears that “racking” sound from a shotgun and they’re running. I’d rather protect my home with a shotgun over a Glock any day.
