Oh, that’s micro-aggression. Kind of like passive aggressive racism. Those comments come from implicit biases and they make the person the comments are being directed to feel uncomfortable or demeaned, even if the micro-aggressor claims to not have meant anything by it. IMO, they know what they’re doing, Trump supporters especially. It happens to me ALL. THE. TIME. via mistaken ethnicity. It happened to me at work Monday. If I’m not at work, I interrupt the conversation by moving or walking away from them, because they know exactly what they’re doing. I’m not stupid.
