At the end of the day, Greek Life rises and falls on the reality of the bonds of brotherhood that is formed in college fraternal organizations. The open motto of Omega Psi Phi is "Friendship is Essential to the Soul," exemplifying the raison d'etre of the Fraternity, an outgrowth of the relationship between the three undergraduate founders who were known on the campus of Howard University as the "Three Musketeers".
An example of this friendship of Omega existed between Leon Haley, Jr, MD and Mohan Suntha(ralingam), MD, college roomates, best friends and initiates of Theta Epsilon Chapter at Brown University. Bro. Haley, who was the Dean of the Medical School and CEO of University of Florida Health Jacksonville was killed in a tragic jet ski accident in 2021 in West Palm Beach, Fl. The friendship of Bro. Haley and Bro. Suntha, who is the President & CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System and Board Chair, Greater Baltimore Committee, lasted for close to 40 years during which time they communicated with each other almost every day.
