in response to ucla girl: "Oh yeah…why was Mara proud that she was a brat? I know many girls that are considered to be JAPs, but our peers do not consider them to be brats or snobs. Being a JAP is really having pride in your heritage, looking good, and having social responsibility. Too many people have taken the meaning of the term from the mid 1950’s and completely turned it around to mean snobby brats who are so self-involved that they couldn’t care less if they dishonored and embarrassed their friends and family on national TV (sorry Mara but you did that!). "
i am proud to be a JAP, although i don't think the term has anything to do with looking good. other than that, those were all the things i was saying when i said that i am a JAP and proud of it. my heritage, my life in general, those are the things i am proud of. also, my family and friends were all extremely proud that i stood up for what i thought was right, rather than just following the crowd and doing what i was told. respect has to be earned, and it's not earned just because you have a pin, letters, or even an office. it is earned through actions and responsibilty and the way you treat others. so, although you may not consider my actions to be correct, you certainly cannot speak for my friends and family, most of whom think that greek life is petty and feel that the sigma sisterhood did not prove them wrong with this particular incident
