Watching last night's train wreck (I'd taped it 'cuz I wasn't home) this afternoon, I think I finally figured out what really bugs me about the show and about Sigma's setup as a whole. I'm going to preface this by saying that I realize Sigma's a local and doesn't have to do things the way that NPC does.
But...
I really don't like the fact that there's such a distinction between "Sisters" and "Pledges." From what I understand of Sigma, the pledges are not yet sisters. And yet they're supposed to display "sincere sisterhood" and such? I don't get it. I know that I'm splitting hairs here and that what the ladies in question did at formal was disrespectful and inexcusably rude to begin with, but I don't like all the segregation of pledge class and active members. I'll not even go into what I think about the separation of pledge house pledges and non-pledge house pledges.
That little scene with Ann and Jesse and Jordan at the end made me feel sick. Jordan should just leave if she feels that maligned. And what Ann said really upset me. "The way you treated my sisters"? Not "our sisters" or "the sisters," but "my sisters"? Again, it's saying that Jordan, et al, are really not a part of the group. Sigmas are not their sisters. If anything, I feel that this pledge period has only helped separate the pledges from the actives, not cement the ties of unity and sincere sisterhood.
I really like our New Member Program that integrates the NMs right off. None of this second-class citizan garbage.
And if I were Becca, I'd have ripped Jesse, et al, a new one for going over my head like that. I'm talking PUBLIC APOLOGY.
