I would have to say Tripmaster Monkey. They were popular in Iowa when I was in college, although they're not around any more. It's not so much the kind of music I'm into now, but as far as early 90s alt-rock with a psychedelic edge goes, they were pretty dope.
If I had to pick a band that is still around, I'd have to go with another Iowa band, out of Cedar Falls: House of Large Sizes. They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen, with a great bass player, a great singer, and catchy, slightly funky, rockin' songs. They opened for Frank Black last year, and it was so great to see them after all these years. They've been around forever and are really dedicated to what they're doing, and so I think they deserve to be a lot bigger than they are.
