my current roommate and i are in different sororities... i don't think it really matters. it's entirely possible that you won't even be good friends with your first college roommate. there's no reason to expect that you'll necessarily end up pledging the same house. you could be entirely different types of people. i'm assuming the school just sets you up at random.

plenty of times it happens that a girl pledges a different sorority from her friends (roommate or not)... it doesn't have to affect your friendship if you don't let it.

is your rush first thing in the fall, or after christmas break? if you rush right away, you'll make most of your girl friends through the sorority (outside of people you knew from high school). if rush is in the winter, you'll probably end up having friends who pledge a bunch of different houses, since you'll have made friends in the dorms and through other non-sorority activities.
