Well, it is sort of weird, but it really isn't when you think about it. The reason DZ isn't participating in recruitment is that they are starting from the ground up--meaning zero existing members...who would do the rushing? 1150 women would be impossible to handle-even if 100 alumnae showed up to help. When I went through rush (granted, at a much different school with an entirely different Greek system), there was a group on campus that colonized a week before school started, and they decided to participate in formal rush--they only had 15 members, and 130 women went through recruitment. In my opinion, that decision killed them before they even got started. Their parties did not compare to the 2 established sororities on campus, and their members were nervous and didn't really know anything about their new sorority, and therefore, couldn't provide much information. They lasted less than 5 years before they folded, and never once got even close to campus total....

Bottom line, You have to make a strong entrance, in order to succeed. It would be suicide for DZ to participate in a high voltage recruitment such as UF's, against established chapters with skits, ceremonies, skilled rushers, philanthropy projects, not to mention houses. DZ's recruitment will consist of informational nights and one-on-one interviews by members of a special expansion team. Although I am not on that team and do not know the specifics, this is the process as I understand it.

SOme people think this means they will get only the "left-overs," but that is not really accurate. True, they will miss out on some amazing women. There is another thread on GC where this issue was discussed at length...but I can't remember what it was called. DZ will be looking for quality upperclass-women who usually don't stand much chance in a rush like UF's. They will also gobble up the wonderful women who fall through the cracks (we all know unbelievable women who have unfortunately been "cross-cut") and some who just decide they want to be part of something new and exciting.

Should be interesting-I can't wait to hear how UF's formal recruitment goes, as well as the colonization efforts. Good luck to everyone who is getting ready!
