I definitely consider DC and Maryland to be Northern states... Virginia is borderline... Even though it was definitely a Confederate state during the War, I have a problem thinking of it as a Southern state nowadays. That's just me, though!
Also, I left out North Carolina on purpose. The "North" in the name is what strikes it from my list.
I know it's considered to be part of the South, but I just can't seem to get past the name. LOL
