I don't consider DC to be the South... Southern states, to me, are the following:
Georgia
Alabama
Arkansas
Louisiana
Texas
Mississippi
South Carolina
Tennessee
Kentucky
Florida (even though Florida really doesn't count in my book anymore -- too many Northern transplants down there nowadays)
