This isn't exactly liberal vs. conservate, but same idea:
"Everyone's a Democrat until they get a little bit of money".
Seriously, though, I hate those labels. I tend to be liberal, especially compared to some of my family. But I actually usually disagree with both liberal & conservative policies on issues of economics & foreign policy.
I grew up with a mom who loves to have (occassionally heated) debates, political, religious or otherwise. So since I was in like jr. high we've had plenty of late night discussions on all kinds of issues. My step-dad is the same way, although he and I rarely agree on politics. I've found that debating issues definately opens your eyes up to the problems out there (domestically & in other countries), as well as make you realize that our policy makers generally are no where close to having decent solutions to problems.
