Okay don't read below if you don't want to spoil the movie.........
So like in the end when the alien is holding the son....I didn't see that little thingy come out of his wrist and I totally thought the alien was going to surprise us and heal the boy (by the way he was waving his arm over his chest). Yeah a little wrong...but oh well LOL!
I loved this movie. I loved how deep into religion it went and into believing in the little signs that we see everyday but don't realize it. The little miracles in life that save us. The coinsidences like how on the couch, Mel tells his brother that the last words his wife said were "Swing Away" and how that was what ended up saving their lives. That the daughter had a form of ESP...envisioned her brother dying....him having asthma and not being able to breate in the gas....the water glasses Mel was going to clean up, but never did....EVERYTHING. Sure, there was a lot of foreshadowing in a way....but it was just so awesomely done that you didn't understand why things were playing out the way they were until the end.
Likewise, I like someone idea above that it was a dream. I can totally see how it could be that way. How he bolts up from a nightmare....and then we see his nightmare....and then see him getting ready for church.
I also liked how SOUND played a part in the beginning...how evident sound is. Like how by the crickets silencing Mel immediately bolts up thinking something is wrong....and there is.
As someone who studied a little bit of film, I'd have to say my favorite scene is when Mel's son is in the hands of the alien and the camera shows him directly in the corner, almost looking down on him and zooming in on his face. It really gave you an honest to god idea of how little and helpless he felt (at least that's what stuck out to me).
Clever and awesome. I'd go see this again in a heartbeat!
