Assuming this was meant for me, I just introduced myself and asked if she would like to go to dinner.

She said no -- that her parents were making a big financial sacrifice paying for her school (including room and board), and that she couldn't waste their money.

Then, she changed her mind immediately. At dinner I complimented her on her blue eyes, and told her I liked the way she accepted the compliment. (She was a high school prom queen and had also won an area beauty contest and was pretty poised -- also Validictorian/Deans list, etc. -- a formidible young woman. She was also singing in a local campus rock band at the time, and had the lead, as a freshman, in a university theatre musical)

About half of my pledge class was in that speech class, and I figured I'd better get to her first. That was a good thing, because I know she had already noticed at least two of us.

But, that does, I think, help prove James point that the bright ones sit in front.
