I know what you mean on being told that your chapter isnt going to make it. We heard a decent amount of that, but we did. We pulled through. So just try to be optimistic. One thing though, is you may not want to take it out on your advisor. My chapter has not had an advisor for a few years now, and this year is finally getting one. So be happy atleast you have an advisor to try to help you get past this starting out slump.
