It makes the stereo types of greeks even worse than they ever have been. I am worried that after this stupid show, our numbers as well as the numbers for other organizations will go down. So I was quite shocked to see you actually defend the show when everyone single other greek doesn't.
Second, what benefits? I think after doing this show, these girls realized what a mistake it was. Yea the benefits of tv, living in a cool house furnished all my MTV. But that brings what? The fact that these girls are the biggest jokes of the greek world and no one will ever take them or most local sororities serious ever again. And by the way, do you know why they decided on a local sorority? Because no national sorority in north america would do it. MTV of course wanted one of the well known national sororities to do it. The went through a list of every national sorority. At one point, they contacted our HQ. Finally, they gave up and went for the locals and this one at UC Davis said yes. I am not trying to be mean but I really don't see any benefits to doing this show or to how its representing greek and sorority life.

I do not like you insulting my intelligence this way, phisigsiggirl. For your information, I am a member of a national sorority. Yes, I am aware that all of the members of the NPC refused to do the show. Yes, I do know that Sigma was unable to get a national to colonize them. Yes, I am aware that there are certain people in the greek community who are zelously against this show.
However, I stand by what I have said. In my opinion this show has portrayed greek life in a balanced way. It has shown the Sigma's actives as caring, studious, and intellegent women. It has also shown that sorority women (new members in particular) like to party and bond during parties and drinking. It has shown a lot of gossiping and in some cases in-fighting. (Which any women in a sorority knows does go on)
The reality is that the stereotype of the drunk slutty sorority girl doesn't exist, but we are still college students and whether greek or not we do the same things all college students do. We get drunk. We booty dance with guys. We get bitchy sometimes. We made bad judgment choices. I don't think that MTV has gone out of its way to showcase these girls "unsigmalike activities." This is the way young women are today. MTV didn't have to make this stuff up. They did it.
Secondly, while there may not be many benefits to doing the show for members of national sororities like ours. For a struggling local the publicity and financial compensation can be very meaningful. We have our nationals to back us up and give us advice. They don't. Also, while you may consider them the "joke of the greek world," little 12 year olds who will be rushing in about 6 years think they are hot stuff. They aren't trying to publicize their local to people like you. You're already in a sorority! They are catching young girls and showing them an honest account of what sorority life is like. Personally, I think it will increase numbers and have positive benefits for all organizations for years to come.
