I really need some advice here. So basically I received a bid from my #1 sorority three weeks ago. I go to a school where Greek life isn't everything but it isn't unpopular either. I am a sophomore here and I decided to rush basically because my friends wanted me to. Anyway, now I am a new member and everyone has been super nice and fun and whatnot, but I have absolutely no time for anything. I commute to campus and work 35 hours a week. Attending meetings is extremely hard and my grades are slipping drastically. I wake up miserable on days where I have new member events simply because I know that I will barely have time for anything for the entire day. Everyone keeps trying to get me to stay but I am so stressed out and really struggling to keep my grades up. The rest of my pledge class gives their 100% to the chapter and I go to even less than the mandatory meetings. My pledge mom works with me to try and work around my work schedule but even still I miss almost everything. I know pledging is the busiest time but I'm starting to feel like if I stay i'm going to wind up resenting the sorority and disaffiliating. I can always defer my bid and just accept it with the fall pledge class if I am missing greek life that much next semester. I am so so miserable, please help.
You are miserable? That is not what being in a sorority is all about. I cannot imagine trying to work a nearly full time job & pledge as a first semester freshman.

Be really careful to get clear information on whether or not you can really defer & pledge next fall. And you need to be 100% sure that you CAN fufill those obligations, if they hold a spot for you. Don't jerk them around after waiting for you all year.

Your education is your primary job. If your grades are dropping, time to depledge now.
