When Debbie went through recruitment at OSU 2 years ago they took the phones in the am and gave them back at night after they made their choices for that day. The following year PNMs had their phones with them all day. I think it bothered me more than it did her and it was probably for the best that I wasn't pestering her with questions throughout the day.
