My thought is that the stolen badges have surely been melted by now. Most badges have engraving on the reverse, and that would make them instantly identifiable as stolen property. You know Tri-Delta has kept records of returned badges, which makes it simple to prove ownership (unlike the ridiculous recent case of the "friend" of ***********, who claimed ownership of KKG badges that were being legitimately sold on an auction site, publicly accusing the seller of selling stolen property, but could never prove ownership of said badges.).
I believe that this will be solved, but have no expectation that any of those badges will be recovered.
