LOL@Lifesaver - the column thing is so true. Around here, we refer to them as "y'at stats." A Y'at is a New Orleanan who sounds like a Brooklynite and usually has very over the top taste. So named because they are prone to say "where y'at?" meaning "how are you."
My mom and I are in the middle of doing our new house, so we're in CONSTANT HGTV mode. I like the looks of places like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, etc. Casual elegance, with a splash of kitch.
Good luck. Decorating is exhausting, especially when you're at odds with the person who's buying the stuff.
