In great part, it is a matter of respect.
It's also a matter of representing your GLO and the greek system. Like it or not, there are a lot of people out there who believe that the greek system is about getting plastered every night, and if you get plastered (or are even just seen drinking) while wearing letters, you reinforce that stereotype.
