When my chapter of DG colonized, elections were held in the 3rd or 4th week I think. It gave us time to learn about the positions and interact with our sisters a bit. Some offices had "class restrictions" -- like the President had to be a sophomore or junior...makes sense, she's need to be around to transition to the next president, etc.
Normally in DG, officers are slated, with elections if needed...for the colony, every position was elected.
Chi Omega might be totally different though - they are very good at "expanding" and I'm sure they have a very successful system in place.
