Why hasn't he called you yet?
Well . . . maybe b/c you haven't waited long enough?
For me, the "girl week", or time when I'm going to be most likely to schedule a dating situation, would probably run from wed or thurs through the weekend - so "early next week" could easily become "thursday or friday" . . .
. . . or maybe he got busy real fast, or maybe just maybe he's still really shy (as you inferred he was earlier in life), and he's still working up the courage to call a girl he had a really good time with the other night (he doesn't want to f- it up, after all).
The point is, conjecture is pointless at this point - it's been 5 days, for christ sakes. Next wednesday, maybe you have an issue . . . or if you really want to know, maybe you should take James's advice, and just ask.
That's my answer to most "what's he thinking?" questions - why don't you just find out directly?
