This past year, there were 3 or 4 chapters who took quota additions. One chapter took 14. Theoretically, the unhoused chapters could take as many QAs as they wanted. They do not have to worry about beds to fill.

The chapters with live out policies could also take QAs.

The only problem occurs with chapters who does not allow live outs. Yes, they do not have a place to house the QAs, however since quota is set so early in the year in bed rush, these chapters may decide to take a QA or two if they have transfers in December or girls who leave the chapter.
Thanks ISK. Not even sure why I really care to understand...I've never known anyone to go to IU, but it's just interesting to me.

RE: The bold above - see my question below. Do the chapters that allow live outs...if they get a QA (or 5) what happens to those NM's? I'm assuming that some upperclassmen made arrangements to live out and that's why they have spaces for NM's. But it's still an exact amount, right? If total is 100, and quota for that group is 25, but 5 seniors are living out...they know GOING INTO RUSH that their "real" quota (quota plus max # of QA's) is 30, right?

Seriously, I'm not sure why I'm trying to understand this, but I do find it weirdly fascinating...
