Rush fears...

Hi Erin,

One thing I'd like to say is that you're not alone. Whether or not you meet a lot of girls at rush who seem very confident, I think almost everyone has a little bit of fear during rush. I had a wonderful GPA in HS, was Athletic (softball), involved in student council, and I love to learn new things, anything. But my first semester was rough, especially with a theology class that brought down my GPA to about a 2.5. And no first semester freshman could rush, so second semester I rushed and was scared about the gpa requirement of the sororities, I wasn't a legacy at all (in fact, I later found out my mom was against the idea the whole time). No recs were required at my school. (we only have four national sororities, so it's a small greek community, to say the least).

But to continue on the track I started on, I was very afraid. I asked my rho chi leader about gpa, and also asked if it was possible to get a bid. The first party I went into I was SO nervous, I could hardly talk when someone asked me a question, and basically rush is all about finding out where you're comfortable and where you can get along with your sisters. I wasn't invited back, unfortunately I will never know if I would have been happy in that sorority. However, I know where I am happy for sure. I love my sorority and the last night it was down to two that I felt I truly loved. But, because of an active's reaction to our conversation, I realized I wouldn't be able to open up in that sorority. You need to be yourself. Ask your questions the first night to your Rho Chi leader, get facts straight and when you go to the parties, be yourself and just find where you may be comfortable.

Sorry for the long-winded advice, Good luck and keep us updated
Mary
