I think it is a particular disservice at OSU (and possibly other similar schools). OSU attracts a lot of students from more rural areas of the state. Without recs, no one has any idea who these girls are or if they understand greek life. They wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell without recs (and they struggle the most to find them.)
If a PNM like the Panhellenic president is from Tulsa or OKC, she might have connections and could possibly squeak by without a rec (albeit with limited options).
