"Screwed" pretty much sums it up...

When I rushed, there were 4 NPCs, a local, and an NPHC sorority at my school. Only the 4 NPCs participated in FR the year I rushed. Roughly speaking, we went 4 (open houses) - 3 (first invitational) - 2 (pref).

So my concept of cross-cutting is this: Suzy PNM is invited to sororities A, B, and C for the first invitational round. She loves A and B, and likes C. She is invited to all 3 pref parties, but she can only attend two, so she regrets C. She's so far down A and B's bid lists that both chapters make quota before reaching Suzy's name, and since she didn't attend C's pref, she is not on their bid lists. No bid for Suzy. If C didn't make quota, they could offer a snap bid, but if they made quota, or if they didn't make quota but chose not to snap Suzy, Suzy is SOL.
