More sad news: My mother lost her fight with cancer late last night.

When my husband and I got the call, we all but flew down to the hospital (good thing the cops weren't out looking for speeders!) to say goodbye to her before she was taken to the morgue. Then we had the unenviable task of picking out a burial dress and some photos to display at the wake. And once she is buried, I will come home and sit shiva.

My father is a wreck. He is not the type of man who cries, but he's been crying over his wife's death ... a lot. He's known her for over 50 years. We met today with the priest who will be conducting her funeral Mass, and he could barely hold himself together. He couldn't even remember the date they were married - I had to supply it.

She was such a wonderful, remarkable woman, and I miss her so much
