I think it's important to realize that these horrific crimes didn't occur because abortion (in general) is legal in this country, but in spite of it.
As long as there are state and local bans, restrictions, poor sexual education, and other hurdles for women and girls to deal with in the process of making reproductive decisions, women and girls will continue to visit illegal, unsanitary, unsafe practitioners and facilities.
