PREF (Day 7): Well Pref is finally here! It’s been a long week so far and I can’t wait for Bid Day! When I open my list I am overjoyed to find out I am invited back to my top three. The Rho Chi’s are not allowing us to talk all day today or have our phones ( although I sneakily shot my anxious mother a text telling her I got back my top choices). This day was boring and so long. My final impressions of the sororities were:

Thanksgiving: This had been consistently one of my favorite houses. I found pref here to be a little awkward as a girl I had never talked to before read me a letter she wrote to me and how much she wanted me to be a Thanksgiving. I thought it was strange and I had a hard time being serious on “serious” night, but I think that just my personality.

Labor Day: Pref at this house was set up beautifully. I again felt a little awkward with the seriousness of the party. I also was a little uncomfortable with some Bible passages being read (I’m not particularly religious) but overall it was a nice event.

Valentine’s Day: This was my last pref party. I was relieved to see the girl who I had met on the first day again. A song was sung and they gave us letters girls had written to us. We read them in silence and a lot of other PNM’s cried. Once again I felt a little awkward, after all we had only known these girls a week so I couldn’t muster up any tears. It was nice to see how special their sisterhood was, but I just couldn’t connect at the level some girls were.

As most of you can probably tell, pref round was not really for me. I feel out of place being so serious with girls I barely know and I much preferred the previous rounds. However, I couldn’t wait for Bid day. At this point I would have been extremely excited to be a new member of any of the sororities I had left, but I had to make some choices. I turned in my final list ranking the sororities as follows:

1. Valentine’s Day
2. Thanksgiving
3. Labor Day
