My worst experience was when I ended up with TWO dates for a formal. I asked a guy I liked...he said he'd get back to me because he was on a varsity team and he thought it might not work with his schedule. A few days go by, and there's no word from him, so I wrote him off and asked a guy friend who knew a lot of sisters, and he was happy to go.

The way it worked was that dates would arrive at the house, and members who weren't living in would open the door and come upstairs to tell us when our dates arrived. A new member came up to tell me when the friend date arrived. He was one of the first arrivals. I said to tell him I was still getting ready and I'd be down in a few minutes. A few minutes go by, and suddenly about 3 new members come upstairs, all breathless, to tell me that the original guy has also shown up! It seriously felt like a bad sit-com...everyone was chattering about what to do. I was irked that the first guy had never called back to confirm and just showed up. They're both standing downstairs, and I didn't even know how to get them separated so I could talk to each one privately and explain the situation. Since the friend guy knew a lot of sisters, I decided to go with the first guy, and we didn't tell him anything. We told the friend what was going on. He hung out with a group of other friend date people, and had a good time. I would have rather gone with him at that point, but this seemed the way to handle it without any additional awkwardness.
