If the money is good, go for it. You may like it and you may hate it. Either way both employee and employer have to stick around.
I'm told that what most employers want is good communications skills (I'm a Communications major so I guess the teachers get paid to teach me that

) -- But if that's true than you should theoretically be able to change fields as long as there's not much new technical stuff to deal with fairly easily.
Skills that you know through the Public Relations field I think will help you no matter where you go.
Oh and if you're getting downsized your state unemployment agency can be a great resource to help find jobs (and give you free $$) -- I'm doing a Corporate Video right now for the Oklahoma Unemployment folks and I've been really impressed with their resources.
