Job Opening: Asst Dir. of Greek Life, UNC Charlotte

Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life is one of twelve professional staff members in the Dean of Students Office who coordinate a variety of campus-wide programs and services. Within each program area, staff members are directly involved in student group advising, leadership training and development, and teaching in addition to coordinating services and programs for other defined student populations. Due to the ombudsman nature of the Dean of Students Office, all staff members advise, counsel, and serve as advocates for students experiencing difficulties or crises. This position requires the flexibility, ability, and willingness to work nights and weekends in structured and unstructured settings with students, staff, and faculty.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Advise executive board officers and delegates of two or three Greek councils which include the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Panhellenic Association, the Diversified Greek Council, the Order of Omega, and Greek Week Board, by working closely with presidents, other chapter leadership, and council executive members.
- Provide consultation with individual chapters and the Greek community regarding programming, recruitment, leadership development, and the implementation of policies and regulations.
- Design, initiate, and facilitate curriculum for leadership education and other programming for Greek students.
- Create and promote educational programs which address social issues confronting today's student.
- Participate in the assessment of student development needs and the design of programs and services to meet those needs.
- Teach the Fraternity and Sorority Life Leadership class COMM 3136


Minimum requirements for the position include, but are not limited to:
- Masters Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related area is required.
- Degree must be attained by time of proposed start date
- At least one year professional work experience in higher education including direct involvement with Fraternity and Sorority Life.
- Knowledge and practice of student development theory, counseling and advising practices, current fraternity and sorority issues, and risk management policies.
- Ability to organize, implement, and evaluate student programs, including membership recruitment and leadership development.
- Experience in advising Greek letter organizations and culturally based Greek groups.
- Membership in a Greek-letter organization desirable.
- Selected candidate is subject to a criminal background check.

Salary: $38,000-$40,950
Anticipated Starting Date: May 20, 2013
