Have you thought about Wilmington? It's not that far from Myrtle Beach and i'd choose it over Myrtle Beach in a heartbeat. I'm admittedly biased, though -- I think Wilmington is a beautiful town with lots of charm, and I think Myrtle Beach is pretty much devoid of beauty or charm.
