I don't know how many times I have had to attend a function that I was not looking forward to attending. Most often, when I made myself go, I had a delightful time and was so glad that I made the effort. Attending the party of a sorority that you think you are not interested in, might just turn out the same for you. And as DubaiSis pointed out, you can practice those conversation skills, which will serve you well if you go through rush in the fall, as well as throughout your life.
