Webster's defines feminism as either
1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
2 : organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests
Obviously, the confusion comes when one confuses the feminist ideal with a particular political movement. Much the same as one could be a Republican but not agree with the entire party platform.
