An Uncle told us (all under age four) our stereo worked in the same manner!
We peered inside/under every open spot on the turntable/speakers (in the old days stereo cord-holes were large and you could easily look into speakers) looking for the little band. I claimed to see a band because my sister couldn't find them  .
