I just read through this whole thread and it made me smile! My number 1 college choice was University of Michigan and I couldn't afford it as an out of state student. My dad's number 1 college choice for me was Barnard and I just didn't like it. My mom wanted me to go to UConn because it was close, but my dad didn't like it. I LOVED Vandy, but was scared about being sooooo far from home with no family nearby. I ended up at Rhodes in Memphis because my brother went there and both my parents were happy with the option. AND I could not have been happier going somewhere else.
Its funny how all this stuff plays out...it is just like recruitment and everyone does end up where they are meant to be!
Ironically enough...and much to my father's delight, making up for my failure to choose Barnard, my sister ended up at Columbia. (Of course, much to my chagrin BEFORE AOII recolonized its alpha chapter
)
I'm glad your daughter is happy at Barnard...it is an AMAZING school and NYC has soooo much to offer
