For some reason, my mind strongly connects songs with what was going on in my life at the time they were popular.
My kids get a kick out of me being able to place a date on just about any song from between 1980 - 2000 by matching it up with what I was doing when it came out.
Some examples off the top of my head:
"Let's Groove" (Earth, Wind and Fire) - Fall 1981 - 9th Grade Christmas Dance
"She's a Beauty" (the Tubes) - Spring 1983 - Last day of 10th grade; hanging with my girlfriends at the pool
"Sweet Dreams" (Eurhythmics (sp?)) - summer of 1983 - dancing at the VIP under 21 night
"Ghostbusters" (Ray Parker, Jr.) - summer of 1984 - between 11th and 12th grade
"The Warrior" (Scandal) - Fall of 1984 - Beginning of 12th grade
"One Night in Bangkok" - Murray Head - Spring of 12th grade
"Power of Love" (Huey Lewis and the News) and "St. Elmo's Fire" (John Parr) and "Party All the Time" (Eddie Murphy) - summer of 1985 - Always on the juke box when I waitressed at Pizza Hut
"Part time Lover" (Stevie Wonder) - Fall, 1985 rush freshman year
"Kiss" (Prince) - spring, 1986 Greek Week
"Call me Al" (Paul Simon) Spring of 1987 - got a summer teller position at a local bank
"Hold on" (Wilson Phillips) - First "grown up" job in New York City
"Basket Case" - Early 1995' listened to Green Day's "Dookie" album continuously while I was pregnant with daughter #1
"Runaround" (Blues Traveller) - Summer, 1995 - birth of daughter #1
LOL, most of the GreekChat readers are probably like, "What in the hell are those songs; golden oldies???"
