I really wouldn't say that informal is a huge deal here, just because a lot of chapters don't have to do it, and those that do tend to really need the additional members. There aren't that many girls that go through informal, and if one chapter's informal is scheduled later than another chapter's, the PNM pool is usually really small because the earlier chapters have given bids to most of the women who go through. A lot of chapters end informal recruitment under total, without full pledge classes, so I would say that there are chapters that do struggle to get those additional members.
I know that during informal last year, my chapter took 14 women and reached total, although it is a HUGE number for informal. We also had several women graduate halfway through the year, so that's why we had the extra spots open, plus spots left open from recruitment in the fall because quota was so low. A lot of chapters are losing more members than they are recruiting, because recruitment numbers had been absolutely huge a few years ago. I don't know what chapter numbers are currently like with all of the new pledge classes, but it seems like very few chapters are going to be at/around total right now.
