As usual, my mind reverts to the very early days of rock and roll, and two songs really jump out.
"I Can't Stop Lovin' You" by Ray Charles, and "Only Love Can Break a Heart," by Gene Pitney -- both from the sixties. There are tons of others from the same era.
By the way:
"Top gun classic---- You've lost that love and feeling"
Top gun classic? Give me a break. That song was huge in the mid sixties, probably before Tom Cruise was born, by the Righteous Brothers. Great song, though, along with their version of "Unchained Melody," and "Ebb Tide."
