If your parents are dead set against you joining your first semester, I would still go through the initial rounds of rush, if that's feasible. If not, try to get to know as many guys from different fraternities as you can outside of rush.
The point is when you DO blow your parents away with that first semester 4.0
to not be a stranger to the Greek system on campus.
