grits: coarsely ground, hulled grain (prepared to a porridge-like consistancy)

they're a lot like cream-of wheat, but much more..... substantial... the actual "grits" are larger than the peices of wheat and made from corn

grits are the "southern" answer to oatmeal

Killarney---- maybe it's a Delta Zeta/woman thing, but I eat mine the SAME WAY.... SUGAR, BUTTER & sometimes a bit of MILK! I've had many, many, Southern compatriates question my heritage due to this "unconventional" method! (due to my grandmother's relentless efforts, I'm a proud member of the DAR, UDC, & DRT historic-ancestry social societies & I NEVER hear the end of certain, "Well, proper Southern Ladies should......" comments)
