My moving-out process happened in 3 stages:
1. Age 17: Moved to Boston, no longer really living with my parents but still mostly financially dependent on them, legal address was my parents' address.
2. Age 21: Moved into my own apartment with my fiance, changed my legal address, still partially financially dependent on my parents.
3. Age 22: Finished college, got a job - financially independent.
(The annoying thing is that my parents tried to claim me as a dependent the year I started working - and I needed the deduction a lot more than they did! My parents wound up having to revise their tax return.)
