You won't be asked for your gpa during regular party conversations but the houses will definitely know your gpa because Greek Life has access to your records/transcripts and that info is included in the data they send along with your registration info.
Personally, a 3.0 is not that bad for a sophomore. It is a respectable gpa for a college student. Not exceptional but not terrible either!
