I'd like to address some points in a general manner.
Point 1:
To the people that are emphasizing the difference between national's and locals.
The way Sigma's rushed is probably more the rule than not the rule in regards to many campuses.
One thing that you are overlooking is that many of you are coming from really large chapters in large greek systems. Often its not your national keeping you in line. Its the competition between sororities. And the fact that many Panhells and IFCs have broken a cardinal rule: Never let your unbrella group become an enforcement arm of the administration. I have talked to girls from large southern sororities and they have told me that if they do something wrong another sorority chapter is likely to turn them into panhell.
At schools with much smaller greek systems, there are more similarities with the way the Sigmas rushed, even among National groups. Maybe not during formal recruitment but certainly during informal. At many schools, formal Rush is a complete joke, based on defferred Rush, and most of the girls go into it having been asked to show up by a sorority.
